slow making – linen

i want to talk about making, slowness, process and purpose, again.

the making n mending club have been at St Fagan’s museum all day, a whole crew sharing, processing, spinning, teaching and talking about flax and linen. among the frequently asked questions is ‘what are you going to make’

…. as if the most beautiful and amazing transformation of a sustainable pretty plant into straw flax into silken fibre and edible seed isn’t enough!

we grow this plant with love and to transform; ourselves and our communities and our earth. using slow and mindful, skilful yet simple, basic human processes that were once common almost tacit knowledge. watching many young children take so quickly to cording demonstrates how embedded in us these dexterous skills are. and how vital.

we want to share these vital skills so that there’s a skill and interest base at grass roots level. we aim to give a deeper understanding of where our cloth and many other products originated, and why we need to return to working with them.. locally, in our communities, outside of the global capitalist system.

Most of what i do is unpaid financially. if you’d like to support my community and environmental work, please buy me a coffee. or a chocolate bar, or seeds!
